Rotax or Parilla? Empty Rotax or Parilla?

Post  Skip Thompson Mon Aug 18, 2008 2:28 pm

Hello everyone, I'm coming back to karting after spending some time car racing and I'm interested in the TaG karts. I'm looking for opinions on the Rotax and the Parilla Leopard engines. Either of the engines are easy to find but is one or the other more popular at Kinsman?
Thank you in advance.

Rotax or Parilla? Empty Re: Rotax or Parilla?

We don't run Tag or Rotax, so these are just my observations. The Rotax motor can be raced in the TaG class as of this year. I personally have only seen the Rotax motor raced in TaG at the ProKart Challenge races at Infineon. It can be very competitive with the Parilla on certain tracks, for instance, when the Infineon national course is run backwards, the Rotax might have a slight edge in the low and mid range power coming up the hill from Tic Tac Toe, since the straight is downhill, it can hold it's own with the Parilla that seems to have an advantage on the top end. When the track is run in the normal clockwise direction, the Parilla seems to have an advantage since the layout lends itself better to a top end motor.

The Rotax spins lower RPM and requires less maintenance (from what I have heard) then the Parilla, but you need to have it serviced at an authorized Rotax service center. You can also run the Rotax is in the Rotax only series such as the Jim Russell series that Rick Shaw promotes. Like Harrison said, we have 3 Rotax races this year at Dixon, the next one at Dixon is October, 12, the next PKC race is September, 13 where you can see Rotax and Parilla's racing head to head in TaG. You should try and plan to attend those races and ask the people that race them what they think.

Thank you Dan and Harrison. I've read that the Parilla recharges its battery and the Rotax does not. That and the fact that the Rotax is sealed make me lean toward the Parilla. I'll come out to the races you mentioned Dan. Thank you for posting the dates.
